Ghost of Yotei: The Undying Samurai Walkthrough (Where to Find All Wind Chimes)

In Ghost of Yotei, the Undying Samurai tells the mythical tale of one whose armor cannot be pierced, and whose body within has been shrouded with immortality. However, Atsu doesn’t believe such a tale, or she simply seeks to wield the powerful armor for herself. Players are definitely going to want to seek out the Undying Samurai Tale early, as it rewards one of the best armors in the game. Below, we’ll show you how to find and start the quest, along with how to find all wind chimes that might block your progress.

Where to Start the Undying Samurai Tale in Ghost of Yotei

How to Find the Storyteller in Ishikari Plain

Players will need to travel to the north-west region to the Ishikari Plain, where, to the east of Ishikari Market, they will find a burned-down village. Inside the village, you can speak with a man sitting by a rock who will tell you of a rumor regarding a Storyteller and the Undying Samurai. This will begin the Mythic Tale that you seek. Now, it’s time to locate Ugetsu the Storyteller to learn more about the Undying Samurai and begin the quest.

To find Ugetsu the Storyteller in the Ishikari Plain, head north of the burned-down village until you reach the White Deer Woodlands. Within this area, you’ll find a bear by a tree, and Ugetsu is camped just opposite this hostile bear in Storyteller’s Rest. We’ve also marked the location on the map, seen above. When you find Ugetsu, simply speak with him to hear the tale of the Undying Samurai, where you will then be tasked with finding 4 Wind Chimes.

How to Find All Wind Chimes in Ghost of Yotei

Wind Chime Location #1

The first Wind Chime can be found just north of Ugetsu the Storyteller, located on a tree where there’s also a deadly bear eating a corpse. Fight the bear and pick up the Wind Chime. With the first Wind Chime, you will be able to locate the others simply by swiping Up on the Touch Pad and looking for where the Wind Chime is most active, as it will make a lot of noise and the blue fabric will swirl far quicker than before. However, we’ve outlined the rest of the Wind Chimes below.

Wind Chime Location #2

The second Wind Chime can be found on a spear on the edge of a cliff. This Wind Chime can easily be found by heading south of Ugetsu the Storyteller. Look to your map and you’ll want to be standing just above the text that reads “Nakagoya Spring”, more specifically, between the “K” and “A”. From here, you’ll be able to grab the next Wind Chime.

Wind Chime Location #3

This Wind Chime is a tad harder to grab than the others, as it requires a bit of parkour. Players will want to head to the west region of Ugetsu the Storyteller, where you’ll enter the cliff just before Stone Jaw Coast. Specifically on the map, players will be standing at the cliff just underneath the “S” and “T” in “Coast”. From here, you’ll see a hanging corpse in the tree, and you can get close enough to hold R2 to use the grapple hook to pull the corpse down. However, the corpse drops with the Wind Chime, so simply look down for a safe path to scale the cliff and climb down to a rock path to grab the Wind Chime, and climb back up.

Wind Chime Location #4

The fourth and final Wind Chime can be found in the Rumoi River, east of Ugetsu the Storyteller. The Wind Chime is located by a tree in the middle of the river, specifically below the “U” and “M” of “Rumoi”. Once players reach the tree, they will notice that a ronin is looting the corpse that has the Wind Chime. You will need to fight the ronin in order to take the Wind Charm, and after, you will have all four.

How to Find the Undying Samurai with the Wind Chimes in Ghost of Yotei

Now that you have all four Wind Chimes, it’s time to use them to find where the Undying Samurai is hiding out. The Undying Samurai’s hideout is north of Stone Jaw Coast, and west of Rumoi River, so players will want to head to the very west edge of the Ishikari Plain, just by the first Japanese text on the map (pictured above). Players can find the location themselves by swiping Up on the Touchpad to use the Wind Chimes to see which direction they sing the loudest.

Upon arriving at the cliff mentioned above, you’ll need to climb down from the point where you see sticks with samurai armor attached. There’s a rope attached to a cut tree stump that you can use to lower yourself down. Follow the linear path down the cliffside to reach teh bottom, where you will enter into the watery cave. Now, just approach the four wooden posts and place the Wind Chimes to begin a cutscene and summon the Undying Samurai to start the boss fight.

How to Beat the Undying Samurai in Ghost of Yotei

How to Get the Armor of the Undying

The Undying Samurai is not to be trifled with, but he is indeed beatable with keen reflexes and a sharp blade. The Undying Samurai will often set his sword on fire, so watch out for his attacks and make sure you are parrying blue glint attacks, dodging red glint attacks, and blocking/parrying everything else. Resilience and a sharp focus will reward you with the Undying Samurai’s death, and then, you will be able to claim his armor. After his death, loot the Undying Samurai to wear the Armor of the Undying, which grants a very excellent buff, and doing so completes the quest.

How to Upgrade the Armor of the Undying

What Does the Armor of the Undying Do?

The Armor of the Undying is a cool samurai set with the following buffs:

  • Staggering enemies restores a minor amount of Health.
  • The window to perform Perfect Parry and Perfect Dodge is increased by a minor amount.
  • Focus Attacks have a minor chance to increase Stagger damage.

Players can visit the Armorer located at any village in Ezo to upgrade the Armor of the Undying, which will both improve the visual design of the armor by providing more coverage and a cape, while also increasing the buffs. The armor requires a multitude of materials to upgrade, but it’s definitely worth it, as it will increase the amount of Health you can get from Staggering enemies, as well as increasing the windows for Perfect Parry and Perfect Dodge, which are some of Atsu’s best skills to invest into early, ensuring that you’re on top form in combat.
